Thank you to all staff, board members, students and their families, volunteers and supporters for another successful year at TCGIS! We wish everyone a great summer!
Office hours during the summer:
The office will be open throughout the summer from 8 am to 4 pm. We will be closed to the public (incl. parents) from June 22 through July 4 to do inventory work and to close out the year. During that time we will not answer phones or reply to e-mail. However, we will be checking e-mail and voice mail and will respond to issues of critical importance.
Director transition: A note from the Board
As the school year comes to a close, an active transition team has been formed to help manage transfer between Judi Ingison and Annika Fjelstad. Judi Ingison's last day at work will be Friday, June 26th. Annika Fjelstad will begin work on July 21st, 2009. The transition team has been meeting regularly and will continue to meet weekly to support the teachers and staff during this time of change. A list of issues has been created to document all the information, constraints, suggestions, action items and decisions. This list will be reviewed weekly to ensure a smooth transition, and to continue to support Annika as she starts her work. The office staff will continue to be your first point of information and will make sure that all concerns and inquiries are directed to the right person throughout the summer.
The Federal Republic of Germany is awarding TCGIS a grant of 15,000 Euros to help support instructional costs. Dr. Heino Beckmann, Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany, presented the gift to the school on December 2, 2008.
2007 FLAP grant awarded to Twin Cities German Immersion
School. The immersion program at TCGIS has been honored
by a foreign language assistance program grant. These grants are
available to schools and school districts to promote early language
learning in a school setting and to promote continuous language learning
up as the children move to higher grade levels. This describes us exactly!
With this grant, TCGIS will contunue to improve the elementary program through
curriculum development, professional development of our staff, a strong fine arts
program and will provide our classrooms with native speaking interns.
The grant will provide us with $80,000 in the 2007-2008 academic year and we will soon hear
how much additional we will receive by 2010.
