German Day at the Minnesota Zoo - Children from the TCGIS are presenting (February 2008):

Read this parent comment: "My neighbor works at Inver Grove High School and she was asked to go to the German Camp at the zoo last week. She was dreading it a bit, not sure what to expect.... But when she got home she came over with nothing but raving reviews of our German Immersion School. She said that the high schoolers were blown away, not only by our 2nd and 3rd graders German knowledge, but their ability to communicate so effortlessly. She said that the projects they did were fantastic. She and the IGH students talked about the benefits of learning another language at an early age, and all were wishing that they had had that opportunity. She also said that the teachers at the school must be doing something right, because the German Immersion kids were outspoken amongst all the older high school kids. They did a wonderful job in explaining and demonstrating the animals that they were assigned. I have a daughter in Kindergarten, so she was not part of the zoo experience. But I felt that it was important to let the parents of those smart, outgoing, German speaking, 2nd and 3rd graders know that their kids are doing a great job."

2007 FLAP grant awarded to Twin Cities German Immersion
School. The immersion program at TCGIS has been honored
by a foreign language assistance program grant. These grants are
available to schools and school districts to promote early language
learning in a school setting and to promote continuous language learning
up as the children move to higher grade levels. This describes us exactly!
With this grant, TCGIS will contunue to improve the elementary program through
curriculum development, professional development of our staff, a strong fine arts
program and will provide our classrooms with native speaking interns.
The grant will provide us with $80,000 in the 2007-2008 academic year and we will soon hear
how much additional we will receive by 2010.
